Zara Environmental LLC, a consulting company located in Manchaca, Texas, is seeking applicants with experience in environmental consulting (or similar) who have a background in geology (preferred) or biology. This position will be responsible for technical writing and editing; proposal/budget development; budget tracking; client networking/interface; managing dynamic schedules and fieldwork including some overnight travel (generally less than 25%). Field work may include SCUBA, caving, and equipment repair and maintenance. Compliance expertise (USFWS, TCEQ, Section 404, WOTUS and NEPA), experience with local conservation issues, and GIS is a plus.
Strong writing ability is required. The ideal applicant will possess a Master of Science degree; endangered species survey permit(s) from the USFWS; experience with ESA Section 7/Section 10 consultations or a current P.G. license; fieldwork experience (outside of school); experience with transportation projects; and technical writing experience. Well organized and highly communicative people will do well in this position, as fast turn-around and complex jobs are common.

Zara’s services include biological and hydrogeological assessments, environmental compliance, and land management. Our biological specialties include avifauna, herpetofauna, freshwater mussels, freshwater fishes, bats, and karst fauna. We consult with landowners, governments, and developers needing to comply with endangered species regulations, including obtaining take permits and fulfilling permit obligations. We conduct groundwater studies and Geologic Assessments for the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality’s Edwards Aquifer Protection program. Zara drafts endangered species recovery plans, habitat conservation plans, and groundwater reports. Our projects have included groundwater dye tracing, presence/absence surveys for endangered species and rare mussels, invasive fire ant control, environmental compliance monitoring, peer review of studies for scientific validity, bat habitat assessments, salamander mark/recapture studies, radio tracking and isotope studies of cave crickets, and drafting management/monitoring plans. Our clients have included the Department of Defense, National Park Service, Edwards Aquifer Authority, Texas Department of Transportation, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, Bexar County, Hays County, Travis County, City of San Antonio, City of Austin, and numerous private landowners, engineering, and consulting firms.
