Zara Co-authors Monitoring Protocols for Klamath Network Caves

Picture
The Klamath Network of the National Park Service will perform monitoring of “vital signs” of the cave environment and cave communities at Oregon Caves National Monument and Preserve and Lava Beds National Monument. The long-term data collection and analysis is described in this newly published narrative and set of Standard Operating Procedures, co-authored by Zara. The focus is on four physical (climate, ice, pool levels, and visitation) and four biological (invertebrates, bats, organic inputs, and entrance vegetation) elements, and the use of simple techniques that are not likely to change decades into the future as this protocol is envisioned for very long-term use.
