Avian Surveys
Zara permitted biologists perform habitat determinations and presence/absence surveys following USFWS and TPWD protocols for the federally listed Golden-cheeked Warbler (Setophaga chrysoparia) and Black-capped Vireo (Vireo atricapilla). Most habitat surveys can be conducted in a single day and can occur during any time of the year. Presence/absence surveys involve five surveys performed each year for three years (unless presence is confirmed first) and are conducted during the breeding season for each bird (generally March-May). Presence/absence surveys are focused surveys and involve both visual and auditory walking surveys in areas that have been identified as containing habitat for either species. Several Zara staff maintain U.S. Fish and Wildlife 10(a)(1)(A) permits to work with endangered central Texas avian species. Our staff are highly experienced and have conducted survey on tens of thousands of acres across central Texas.
