Jimmy MacMillan, B.S.
Staff Scientist, Safety Officer, and Lead Diver
Mr. MacMillan is a certified commercial diver with over a decade of technical underwater experience supporting engineering and scientific projects. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Marine and Freshwater Biology from the University of Texas, Austin where he focused on the effects of anthropogenic outflows on estuarine systems from Texas to Mexico. Jimmy has experience with National Environmental Policy Act documenting impacts and proposing mitigation strategies for energy exploration, water utility projects and transportation corridors. He has collected data and prepared reports for USFWS, NPS, NOAA, NMFS, US Forest Service, TPWD, TXDOT, Edwards Aquifer Authority, Dallas Water Utility, the City of Austin, the City of Dallas, and the City of San Antonio. His responsibilities as a staff scientist at Zara include conducting surveys for threatened and endangered species, cataloging data and specimen samples, statistical analyses, aiding in geological assessments and karst investigations, leading field work and document preparation. He also serves as safety officer ensuring that routine safety evaluations, training and briefings are completed and recorded according to OSHA standards. Jimmy has participated in twelve aquatic ecology projects, over twenty-five freshwater mussel surveys covering six different watersheds and over thirty karst-related projects encompassing Geologic Assessments, karst invertebrate habitat surveys, biological monitoring, cave excavations and management. Mr. MacMillan is now becoming adept at bird identification and has participated in four birding projects related to the Migratory Bird Treaty Act and protected species such as the Golden-cheeked warbler and Black-capped vireo.
