Staff Scientist

  • Starting Salary: $50,000 - $70,000
​         (commensurate with experience)
  • Work as needed, including 40+ hours when required
  • Field visits/travel as needed

​Qualifications

  • USFWS Recovery Permit holder for listed species in Texas (especially Houston Toad, mussels, bats, birds, karst, and salamander species)
  • At least three years of experience surveying for threatened or endangered species and their habitat in Texas
  • Strong writing skills and experience managing data and preparing scientific technical reports
  • Familiarity with survey protocols for various species

Job Role Expectations 

Desired/Additional Skills and Abilities

  • Perform fieldwork at sometimes remote field sites with occupational hazards including venomous snakes, poisonous plants, and biting/stinging insects, and construction traffic
  • Lift and carry up to 40 pounds over uneven terrain
  • Perform work in water (no SCUBA required) or in caves as needed
  • Safely work at high-traffic, noisy, dusty construction sites
  • Extreme attention to detail when recording and reporting data
  • Work independently with very little oversight or as part of a team
  • Data management and technical report preparation

  • Experienced in the use of acoustic methods for bats
  • Experienced in the analysis of acoustic recordings of bat calls
  • Up to date rabies pre-exposure vaccine
  • ​Experience with transportation, oil & gas, or other linear projects
  • Wetland delineator
  • Experience using digital data capture in the field
